Just watched some video of speech by noted Marathi actor “Sachin Khedekar”. In this video Mr. Khedekar particularly says that these days whatever is comic in tone is worshiped and if somebody tries to put forth any point in serious manner then it is labeled as heavy duty stuff. Being in a film industry I feel this is the reason behind our industry churning out mindless, idiotic, overdone escapist films one after another. Whenever, I discuss with somebody that why he/she liked a particular film, I get an answer that he didn’t had to think while watching a movie. On the contrary I have always felt that whatever the movie is, it should be watched with absolute focus & concentration even if its some idiotic, senseless comedy film. Rather watching a film is like any other activity which requires attentive brain functioning, like we do our daily work, eat food, update status message on Facebook or tweet something, driving a car etc. Movies are for entertainment same as fiction books, music etc. However, one needs to focus, to think, grasp, understand and most importantly INTERPRET each & every element of story. In the same way a film should be seen as films are nothing but different stories. I feel if this is not happening then human brain starts losing its capacity to fathom serious issues or innovative, novel ways of narrative, which also can entertain.

UDAAN gives a message of following your dreams & how parents should not impose their own wishes/thoughts on their children. However, not in a single scene director preaches and still strongly makes the point. Performances by all the cast members are amazing. They just fit in their respective characters. Special mention has to be made of Rajat Barmecha as Rohan & Aayan Boradia as Arjun. Music by Amit Trivedi goes well with mood & treatment of the film. Very good one.

The reason behind writing this piece of text is with reference to a discussion I had with a friend . He was saying nature’s rule is that humans are a social animal whereas on the contrary I have always felt that naturally every human is alone.

Every man/woman is always inclined towards mingling, socializing with others. I say feeling of socializing is not natural but it comes out of fear of being alone, which every human has. Now, comes part of emotional attachment. I think feeling of being attached to parents, siblings, friends etc comes out of being with them for a certain period of time. You enjoy being with them and it becomes kind of habit rather it becomes need and when need arises comes a question of utility. That way I have always felt that every relationship comes with a utility and once the utility is over relationship is over.

Moving on this may sound harsh but every human comes with date of expiry and we always try not to think about it. However, in our subconscious we definitely know that and as a result of this we try to build new relationships with fear of expiry of other people and of course our own default state of being alone. That’s why when somebody just thinks of himself we say he/she is having extreme individualistic attitude or is self centered. I say nothing wrong in it but its just that degree of being alone is slightly higher in these people than others. However, having said this depending upon the degree of state of being alone and fear caused by it, people make or break relationships. Always in search of someone. May it be a family member, friend or somebody else.

The debate over caste census is on and has heated up. Personally, speaking till couple of years back I was used to be proud in being a member of particular caste but later I felt its nothing but a false pride. For me it started making zero sense because my parents, family and people around me were saying that I belong to particular caste and I found no real base to it.

Also, it was more of like few people belong to some other caste and that’s why importance of me coming from some caste increases. Apart from this my parents decided and at the age of 8 I had to go through some ritual, of which I don’t remember anything and it hasn’t affected my life in any way. However, as a kid major impact was that I started taking unnecessary pride in coming from a particular caste. Another reason people gave in celebrating such rituals is that it gives them a chance to invite friends/family for get together but I guess get together can be arranged without involving religion/caste at least when ritual is related with children, who most of the times don’t understand a single bit of it.

Now, I get amazed considering how foolish I was that instead of taking pride in my achievements, creations, accomplishment I was used to feel proud of a thing, in which my contribution was zero. Its just that people surrounding me used to tell me and since ages all these people were also told by their forefathers that they come from a particular caste. Having said all this, unfortunately till today in administrative systems of largest democracy in the world caste of a citizen is required for maintaining records. I guess another reason for people for taking pride in their caste.

Sadly, this doesn’t end here. People take pride in their caste, then in their regional identity and above all comes the mighty thing called “religion”. Some more energy is wasted in cursing/bashing people from other communities/castes/regions/religions and then suddenly, you go outside of India and you become Asian. At this point most of the people feel proud being an Indian. Till that time being an Indian is never on agenda.

Is “The Hurt Locker” an action war film? For me the answer is “NO”. It is surely not an out an out adrenaline action film. In simple words, “The Hurt Locker” is a story of a soldier working for US Army in Iraq and doing his job. Of course, Hurt Locker shows life of soldiers posted in Iraq. However, film is not about just war and it is about treating soldier’s work as a routine job. The Hurt Locker follows protagonist “William James”. William James is a member of “United States Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)”. He is a veteran when it comes to disposing the bombs and it has been shown that he has disarmed 873 bombs. The job of disarming bombs has become so mundane, routine for him that every time he goes to do his job he tries to do it differently and tries to enjoy what he is doing. Hence, when he goes to disarm a bomb in a car trunk, fearlessly he kicks the trunk to open it. Then he takes off his protective suit and says “If I’m going to die, I’m going to die comfortable.” For William James this activity has become like a clerk working in a bank. Nothing new, nothing exciting. His job has become too mechanical. He has lost fear for death. William has surpassed the saturation in his life. He feels nothing about his job. It’s like he just wakes up in the morning and go to his work. In the climax William is talking to his son and telling him about how things from childhood doesn’t matter when we grow up and rather we feel about just a thing or two and then William returns back to Iraq to join Delta company. In this last moment director Kathryn Bigelow summarizes the whole story beautifully in just one shot. William walking and close-up of his feet has been shown and then in next frame the close changes to his feet but this time with boots from protective suit on. Next shot comes a wide-top angle of William in protective suit walking down the lane and text comes as “Days left in Delta Company’s Rotation : 365″. Another year, same job. Thats it.

What should I say “Brilliant, Amazing, Awefome, Very very very well-crafted, Fuper, Bang on, Intelligent, Very very fexy and its better not to talk about dialogues and lingo. They are just brilliant. Just take this example “फ़” को “फ़” नहीं बोलेगा तो क्या “ल” बोलेगा? Huh !!! I am falling short of words in praise of this film. Vishal Bhardwaj take a bow and kudos to UTV Motion Pictures for supporting such a film. India surely deserves more of these kind of films. Most importantly as a director and writer Vishal Bhardwaj hasn’t compromised on treatment, story in favour of cliché of commercial Bollywood film, except for climax. I was expecting more vibrant, bit more brutal, shattering climax. Mr. Bhardwaj you have raised the bar again after Makadee, Maqbool, Blue Umbrella and Omkara. Eagerly, looking forward to the next offering from this brilliant director.

I don’t know how many times more I am going to see “Billy Elliot”. I already have seen it for couple of times and still can’t get over with it. A story of a motherless boy who chooses ballet shoes against boxing gloves. A very subtle treatment by director Stephen Daldry. Brilliant performances by Jamie Bell as Billy Elliot, Gary Lewis as Dad and Julie Walters as ballet teacher and of course by other supporting cast members. Above all this what an apt use of songs in the film. “Cosmic Dancer, Get It On, I love to Boogie and Children of Revolution by T. Rex are some. A must watch film for everyone who love films with just happy tone.

“Walk When You Talk” – I doubt that. A new advertisement by Idea Cellular. This new advertisement is nice in presentation. However, according to me it is sending a wrong signal. Since the inception of mobile revolution in India, apart from statistics of number of mobile users, new technologies, 2G/3G, iPhone mania, people are being educated about how to use mobile phone on road, in public places. Like do not talk on mobile phone when driving, not using mobile phone when crossing a street. The simple reason behind this is “when a person is talking on phone, his mind is engaged in conversation over the phone . This leads to absence of concentration and might result into fatal accident. On the other hand I think this new advertisement is promoting the idea of “Walk When You Talk” and is going against basic rules to be followed by any mobile user in India or rather in world.
