IQBAL

When I came out of a theater watching IQBAL, immediately I wanted to congratulate IQBAL on getting selected in Indian cricket team. And there lies the success of the film. IQBAL is a story of an 18 year old boy from village who is deaf and dumb and how he achieves his dream of being a bowler in Indian team.

Mangal Pandey

Hey God, please forgive Ketan Mehta, Aamir Khan and Farokh Dhondy for making a disgusting movie called “Mangal Pandey – The Rising”. 7 years in making, 1000 prints worldwide and so called India’s answer to Academy Award Winner “Braveheart”. I don’t understand on what basis the makers have made such hype. Rising is a complete let down. Also I haven’t understood why all the critics are praising Rising and have given 4 start rating. I sincerely doubt about the home work done by Ketan Mehta and Farokh Dhondy.

Ab Tak 56

“When we have information, we kill criminals. When we don’t have information, we kill time. Don’t be restless. Be patient.”

This is the dialogue from the RGV production and Shimit Amin directed “Ab Tak 56”. This is the only movie which takes a realistic look at the life of an encounter cop.

Paheli

When I came out of theater after watching Paheli, just one thought came to
my mind that what I have jut experienced can not be ahindi film. Its just brilliant. It was like I have just seen a ‘A Wizard of Oz’ (One of my favourite fantasy films) in Hindi. Kudos to Amol Palekar. Amol Palekar has done a brilliant job. Paheli is a classic example of how a love story can be presented in a different style than those typical Chopra-Johar styles. Amol Palekar creates his own world and he has 100% succeeded in it.

SARKAR

First of all I will like to state that SARKAR is not at all copy of the classic ‘Godfather’. Sarkar does have some common sequences but similarity ends there. And obviously credit goes to RGV for giving SARKAR very earthy and Indian treatment. Basically, SARKAR is a story of Subhash Nagare aka SARKAR (Amitabh Bachchan) who is law himself.

BLACK

Last week I watched a critically acclaimed BLACK. Another different movie after SWADES. Black is a good movie. Great effort by the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sometimes he has concentrated more on technical wizardry but overall it’s an unusual experience for the viewer.

Finding Neverland

Yesterday, I watched a movie “Finding Neverland”. Johnny Depp stars as Sir James Barrie, creator of all time classic Peter Pan. A film is about what inspired James Barrie to write peter pan. It’s an amazing movie. Director has done a fabulous job. Mainly Mr Barrie’s character is great. He is a mature person but still there’s a kid inside him who always dreams of a place called Neverland. And then Barrie meets Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet) and her family and he writes the play Peter Pan based on this relationship.
